DESCRIPTION: APW - Elgin, Lord Elgin, Grade 351, 23J, 16S, heavy 14K gold OF original Canadian made AWCCo case, gold cuvette engraved "Presented on April 17. '06. to John W. Stocks by Court Prince Albert No 149, I.O.F.," white enamel DS dial, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, raised gold jewel settings, gold center wheel, decorative gold disk around balance jewel, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#12718249. Gross weight of assembled watch 63.0 dwt (97.9 g). A superb example of this scarce to rare top grade watch, it is believed that the total production of the Lord Elgin Grade 351 is approximately 550 made. Though Elgin blocked 2000 serial numbers in total for the production of this grade it appears that only a fraction of these serial ranges were completed as all examples we have observed fall within either an initial group of 500 stem-set movements (serials 12718001-12718500) or a later group of 50 lever-set movements (serials 15159001-15159050). Selections from the collection of Tom McIntyre. Mr. McIntyre's website contains stories on many of the watches which can be found here: https://awco.org?collid=300
CONDITION: Mvt: Running sluggishly, overhaul recommended, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some typical fine to micro-fine scratches, oxide to perimeter of larger winding wheel, few small specks of oxide to smaller winding wheel and regulator index; nearly flawless dial with only a faint outer chapter hl below seconds-register at 6; excellent hands, oxide to tip of minute; case shows hardly any wear, some mild fine scratches, no dents or dings; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $2000 - $3000
